Roadmap

PreviousNext

Balqalam forward direction — quarterly themes, per-epic maturity, and active structural initiatives. Updated 2026-05-10.

The MVP doc records what is shipped today across 14 epics. This roadmap records what is coming next. Themes here map to real branches, issues, and audits in flight — not a wish list. Anchor date: 2026-05-10.

For requirements and constraints see PRD. For commercial direction see Business model.

Active initiatives

These are the structural changes shaping the next two quarters. Each is an end-to-end audit or refactor — not a single ticket.

InitiativeSummary
Payment umbrella (#263)End-to-end finance audit + phased P0/P1/P2/P3 roadmap. Today only Stripe works E2E; Tap is a stub; double-entry engine has no callers. See Fees.
Fee auto-provisioning (#264)Hybrid sync mirroring catalog/setup.ts so new schools never see an empty fees page. Replaces the seed-script approach in #263 P0-3.
Exam block production audit14 P0 / 22 P1 / 18 P2 across the exams block. Top P0s: User.id-as-Student.id submission bug, in-memory rate limiter on serverless, 17 models missing lang, RBAC + calculator 0% test coverage. See Exams.
Translation auditSystematic Playwright MCP audit of school-dashboard pages for hardcoded English. Fix per-page before moving on. See Translation.
Role-aware UI sweepSidebar / PageNav / Toolbar / row-action gating across school dashboard. Listings wired with permissions.ts + UIPermissions; finance + school + sales pending.
Section-based architectureDeployed and DB migrated. Needs Playwright MCP testing on the section-centric attendance + timetable surfaces. See Attendance.
WhatsApp merge into Messages (#164)Move WhatsApp settings into Messages settings dialog and auto-bridge messages to WhatsApp.
Transportation production-readyShipped 2026-05. Remaining work is hardening: tighter geofence accuracy, fee preview accuracy, parent-app notification windows. See transportation block.

Not on the roadmap (this year)

A few things look adjacent but are explicitly deferred. Listing them so contributors do not start speculative work.

  • Catalog split refactor. Splitting catalog/setup.ts into per-curriculum configs is parked until a non-SD school onboards. Single DB table is fine for now.
  • Mobile API beyond current routes. Existing routes (auth + transportation geofence-boarding) are enough. No broader mobile-first API surface this year.
  • Marketplace plans. No instructor / content marketplace until cross-school catalog adoption signals real demand.
  • Hostel and cafeteria modules. Dictionary mentions only; no schema, no UI, no roadmap entry.
  • Native iOS / Android apps. Mobile web works today. React Native track only opens after PMF is clear.

How decisions are made

  • Requirements: PRD defines scope, NFRs, and constraints. New work proves it fits these before it gets added here.
  • Shipped state: MVP is the source of truth for what works today. If it conflicts with this doc, MVP wins for "what is" and roadmap wins for "what is next".
  • Commercial direction: Business model shapes which initiatives get prioritised — finance and admission ship first because they tie to revenue.
  • Architecture: Architecture is the canonical design doc. Initiatives that violate it (e.g. weakening multi-tenant isolation, bilingual columns, breaking the mirror pattern) are rejected.
  • Issues over chat. Anything on this page is also tracked in GitHub issues. If a roadmap item has no issue, it is a draft and should not be picked up yet.
